Supply Of Mandarin Oranges In Johor Adequate Despite High Demand

JOHOR BAHRU, Jan 29 (Bernama) -- The supply of mandarin oranges in Johor is sufficient despite heavy demand by consumers.

State Tourism, Trade and Consumerism Committee chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong said this followed higher import by the largest mandarin orange wholesaler in Johor to meet demand by consumers for this festive item.

"This year, MTS Import and Eksport Sdn Bhd, the largest mandarin orange wholesaler in Johor imported 35 containers containing 6,000 boxes of mandarin oranges compared to 30 containers last year especially for the market in the state.

"The price will remain the same as last year for small sized fruits while the larger fruits will cost 10 per cent more as they needed more care and water," he told reporters after inspecting the supply of mandarin oranges in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration at MTS Import and Eksport Sdn Bhd godown here today.

He said mandarin oranges were already widely sold in the market now.

The wholesale price of a 4kg-box of mandarin oranges of various sizes is sold between RM10 to RM20 while at the retail level, it is sold at between RM15 to RM25.
