Petrol Station Operators Only Charged Basic Rate - IWK

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 7 (Bernama) -- The sewerage treatment charge imposed on petrol stations in the country is only based on the basic rate, which is different from what is charged to hotels, said Indah Water Konsortium Sdn Bhd (IWK) chief executive officer, Faizal Othman.

"It is different from the charges imposed on hotel operators who need to pay the basic charge plus the charge for water usage exceeding 100 cubic meters," he said in a statement here, today.

He was commenting on claims by the Petrol Dealers Association of Malaysia (PDAM) recently which said hotel operators were getting greater discounts for sewerage treatment services than them.

PDAM was commenting on the issue of 50 sen coupons being sold for using the toilets at a petrol station in Pulau Kambing, Kuala Terengganu, recently, on the grounds that petrol station operators did not get discounts on their IWK bills like their hotel counterparts.

According to him, the petrol station in question was using an individual septic tank system, and based on records, the station operator had never used the services of IWK to clean the septic tank.
