LKIM All Set To Help Fishermen Affected By Floods

KUALA TERENGGANU Dec 7 (Bernama) -- The Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM) will constantly monitor the welfare of fishermen affected by the floods, said its Terengganu director Mohamad Zawahid Shamsuddin.

He said to facilitate the management of applications for aid and monitoring, a committee was formed in all districts, in collaboration with fishermen associations.

"In determining the form of aid needed, we will observe and assess the losses faced. If the houses are found to be damaged, we will repair them in 'gotong-royong' manner, while damaged items may be replaced.

"The aid will be distributed through the Natural Disaster Assistance and Fishermen's Welfare Scheme," he told Bernama here today.

Mohamad Zawahid said the aid was among various assistance distributed to fishermen during the monsoon season and emergencies such as when boats capsized or fishermen went missing at sea.
