Kelantan Health Dept Seizes Unregistered Health Products Worth RM1.2 Million

KOTA BHARU, Dec 6 (Bernama) -- Kelantan Health Department seized 6,864 bottles of unregistered health products for diabetic patients worth RM1,235,532 in a raid at a factory here last month.

Its state director Datuk Dr Ahmad Razin Ahmad Mahir said the raid was conducted on Nov 20 by the Pharmacy Enforcement Branch under the 'Ops Ghost' following a public tip-off and intelligence.

"Following the raid, it was found that the premises was involved in the manufacturing of a health product for diabetics which is sold at RM180 per bottle and is not registered with the ministry.

"The hologram of the product, that allegedly uses apple extract, also uses a fake MeSTI logo," he told reporters at the Kelantan State Pharmacy Enforcement Branch Office here today.

Dr Ahmad Razin said all of the products were confiscated and stored at the branch for further investigation under Regulation 7(1)(a) of the Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations 1984 for manufacturing unregistered products.

He said health products manufactured at factories that did not have the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certification were also deemed to be at risk of harming consumers in terms of their safety and quality.

He said his department viewed seriously the existence of health products available in the market that were not registered with the Health Ministry as they could be detrimental to the health of the consumers.
