Eraman Partners Alipay To Enhance Chinese Tourists' Shopping Experience

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 5 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airports (Niaga) Sdn Bhd (also known as Eraman), a subsidiary of Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, has partnered Alipay to improve Chinese travellers' shopping experience at its airport outlets.

Eraman is the largest duty-free and retail travel operator in Malaysia while Alipay is the world's largest online and mobile payment platform operated by Ant Financial Services Group.

The collaboration would enable the company to tap into the 520 million Alipay active users, of which 4.5 million were Chinese tourists who travel to Malaysia, annually.

"Chinese travellers can pay with their Alipay personal Quick Response Code via their smart phones with Alipay integrated into the acquirer's merchant portfolio of Maybank and CIMB Bank by using the in-store online payment solution," it said in a statement today.

Malaysia Airports (Niaga) General Manager Zulhikam Ahmad said Alipay would allow Chinese travellers to pay in renminbi (RMB) without the concern of the exchange rate as payment would be done through a simple swipe and barcode-scanning method.

Eraman, in conjunction with the partnership, launched a special promotion from Sept 1 until Dec 31, 2017, whereby all Chinese travellers using Alipay would be entitled to a RMB100 e-voucher upon spending RMB1,000 at participating Eraman retail outlets.

Alipay users would also enjoy up to a 10 per cent discount for purchases made at Eraman's food and beverage outlets and convenience store, EXpress.

Meanwhile Alipay Country Manager for Malaysia Greta Gunawan said in future, Alipay users could also check the shops' details and special offers via the in-app Discovery platform even before they depart for Malaysia.
